The Zentrum Paul Klee stands at Schöngrün on the eastern outskirts of Bern and was designed by Renzo Piano, who was contracted in 1998. The site decision and contract were in 1998, the preliminary project in 2000, and it was completed in 2005. The article gives no style, materials, dimensions or client. A 1997 donation of Klee works went to the city and canton of Bern.
The form is three undulations blending into the landscape. Hill North holds Creaviva, a creative studio for all ages. Hill Center holds the museum exhibits, and Hill South holds the collections and archives.
It holds about 40 percent of Paul Klee's pictorial works. A community garden was added in 2021.
