Zaryadye Park lies beside Red Square in Moscow, on the former Zaryadye district. A consortium led by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, with Hargreaves Associates, Citymakers and BuroHappold Engineering, won a 2012 competition of 90 submissions from 27 countries. Construction ran from 2014 to 2017, and the park opened on September 9, 2017.
The park covers 32 acres (13 hectares), with four climate zones: forest, steppe, tundra and floodplains. Hidden facilities include a concert hall, a media center and a Far North pavilion with an ice cave. A bridge soars 230 feet (70 m) without a support, with a concrete structure and a wooden deck, and a river overlook extends 230 feet (70 m) over the Moskva.
The Rossiya Hotel stood here from 1967 until demolition ended in 2007. The article calls it the first new Moscow park in over 50 years, costing more than 480 million dollars.
