The Zappeion in Athens was designed by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen. The benefactor Evangelis Zappas died before completion, and his cousin Konstantinos Zappas finished it. The Greek state owns it. Parliament allocated the land and passed the enabling law in 1869. The infobox and text agree that the cornerstone was laid on January 20, 1874. It opened on October 20, 1888.

The article calls the style Neoclassical and mentions only a marble-clad peristyle atrium. It has about 25 rooms of 97 to 984 square meters. The original land allocation was 80,000 square meters.

It was the main fencing hall for the 1896 Olympics, the Olympic Village in 1906, and the Athens Radio Station from 1938. Greece's European Community accession documents were signed there in May 1979, and it served as the 2004 press center. It is now a conference and exhibition center. The article gives no hours.
