Yueyang Tower stands on the city wall at the west gate of ancient Yueyang, in Hunan Province, on the shore of Lake Dongting, facing Junshan Island. Its site is linked to Lu Su, a general of Eastern Wu who is said to have built the Yuejun Tower there to review his navy.

Fan Zhongyan wrote the famous memorial essay for the tower in 1046, at the invitation of his friend Teng Zijing, who planned the rebuilding. The present tower dates from 1880 and follows the style of the Qing dynasty. It is 19.42 meters high, with three layers of overhanging eaves, a helmet roof and yellow glazed tiles.

The text describes an overhaul in 1983. The tower is presented as a scenic site.
