Wuhan railway station was designed by AREP, the Fourth Survey and Design Institute of China, MaP3 and SNCF-IGOA, chosen after a two-phase competition in 2005. The Wuhan Railway Bureau operates it. Construction ran from September 2006 to December 2009, built by China State Construction Engineering Corporation. The article names no style or materials.

The design draws on the yellow crane, the symbol of Wuhan, and the roof resembles crane wings on a sine curve. The main arch spans 381 feet (116 m) and rises 190 feet (58 m). The station has nine separate parts, said to represent China's nine provinces, and a central thoroughfare. Cost passed 14 billion yuan, including surrounding infrastructure.

The infobox lists 20 platforms, but the text says 11 platforms and 20 tracks. Metro Lines 4, 5 and 19 connect here. The article gives no operating hours.
