The West Virginia State Capitol in Charleston was designed by Cass Gilbert for the State of West Virginia, with a Capitol Building Commission created in 1921 to oversee construction. The infobox says built in 1932, but the text describes three stages from 1924 to 1932. The cornerstone was laid on November 5, 1930, and it was dedicated on June 20, 1932.
The walls are buff limestone. The dome is 292 feet high and 75 feet across, and the building has 525,000 square feet of floor space.
It is part of the West Virginia Capitol Complex and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 31, 1974. Gilbert used the state Supreme Court chamber in the East Wing as a model for the U.S. Supreme Court courtroom. Tours are arranged through the West Virginia Culture Center.
