Weltenburg Abbey is a Benedictine monastery whose Baroque abbey church was built between 1716 and 1739 by the Asam brothers. Tradition credits Agilus and Eustace of Luxeuil with founding it around 617, though the infobox says 7th century. An earlier church was consecrated in 1191 and replaced in 1716. The courtyard buildings date to the time of Abbot Maurus Bächl, from 1713 to 1743, and the article names no architect for them. The church is dedicated to Saint George.

The abbey was dissolved on March 18, 1803, during Bavarian secularization, and the church became a parish church in 1812. King Ludwig I re-founded it on August 25, 1842, as a priory of Metten Abbey, and it became an independent abbey in 1913. The chapel was restored from 1999 to 2008 for about 6.5 million euros.

The monks run two parishes, farming, adult education and concerts. The campus has a restaurant and a biergarten.
