Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles was designed by Frank Gehry, with John A. Martin & Associates and Cosentini Associates as engineers. The Los Angeles Music Center is the owner and client, and Lillian Disney gave the first $50 million in 1987. Construction stalled from 1994 to 1996. Groundbreaking was in December 1999, and the hall opened on October 23, 2003. The hall cost $130 million and the parking garage $110 million. The article describes angular design with elements of deconstructivism.
The exterior is stainless steel, originally planned as stone. Inside, the walls and ceiling are Douglas fir and the floor is oak. The 2,265-seat auditorium blends vineyard and shoebox layouts, and the organ has 6,125 pipes. Reverberation is about 2.2 seconds when empty.
The Los Angeles Philharmonic and Master Chorale perform here. The article gives no hours or ticket details.
