Wahnfried in Bayreuth was built from 1872 to 1874 for Richard Wagner, financed by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The infobox credits Carl Wölfel after Wilhelm Neumann, and the text says Wölfel supervised construction from plans by Berlin architect Neumann, which Wagner altered in places. The article names no style.
Wagner's motto over the portal says his delusions found peace here. The family moved in on April 28, 1874, before the work ended. Allied bombing in 1945 destroyed the rotunda living room and the guest room, and the family had moved books, paintings and archives out beforehand.
The family gave the house to the city in 1973, and restoration from 1973 to 1976 recreated the rotunda, salon and guest room. The Richard Wagner Museum opened on July 24, 1976. A €20 million renovation closed it in 2010, and it reopened on July 26, 2015 with archive rooms and a new pavilion.
