W Abu Dhabi - Yas Island, formerly the Yas Hotel, stands on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, built above the Yas Marina Circuit. Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture of Asymptote Architecture designed it for the developer Aldar Properties. Groundbreaking came in 2007, and the hotel opened on November 1, 2009.

It has two 12-story towers, one inside the race circuit and one in the marina. A steel-and-glass bridge and a grid shell link them, and both span the Formula One track. The floor area is 85,000 square meters (about 915,000 square feet), with 499 rooms, 75 suites and six restaurants.

The curved glass-and-steel grid shell is 217 meters (712 feet) long. Waagner-Biro built the facade, and Al Futtaim Carillion was the builder. An LED system with 5,389 glass elements lights the facade, and Arup Lighting led the design. It won the AL Lighting Design Award for Outstanding Achievement.
