The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, near Basel, was designed by Frank Gehry with the Lörrach architect Günter Pfeifer. Rolf Fehlbaum founded it as a private foundation in 1989 to house his collection, though the article names no formal client or completion year. It was Gehry's first European building.

The article calls the style Deconstructivist, with curved forms unlike Gehry's usual angular work. Sloping white forms are clad in white plaster and a titanium-zinc alloy. The article gives no dimensions. Gehry also built a production hall and gatehouse for the Vitra factory.

Herzog & de Meuron designed the Schaudepot storage building, which opened in June 2016 and shows the permanent collection. The main building stages temporary exhibitions. Nearby are Tadao Ando's conference pavilion and the Vitra Fire Station. Guided tours of the premises are offered.
