The Uddevalla Bridge crosses the Sunninge sound near Uddevalla in Bohuslän, on the west coast of Sweden. Johs Holt AS and Skanska Teknik AB provided the structural engineering, and Skanska was the general contractor. The Swedish National Road Administration handles its upkeep. Construction began in 1996, and the bridge opened on May 20, 2000.
It is a cable-stayed bridge with a semi-fan cable arrangement. The total length is 5,617 feet (1,712 meters), and the main span is 1,358 feet (414 meters). The pylons are reinforced concrete and rise 489 feet (149 meters).
The deck is a composite of steel and reinforced concrete, and the cables are steel. Ice falling from the cables in winter forces a few closures per year.
