Trondenes Church stands on the northern edge of Harstad in Troms, Norway. Tree-ring dating places its completion shortly after 1434, and it was consecrated around 1435, although it is often called thirteenth century. It is the third church on the site. The first was a stave church of the eleventh century, followed by a twelfth-century building. It is a long church of white stone, with a nave 74 feet (22.6 meters) long and seats for about 300.
The church holds three Gothic altarpieces, a Baroque pulpit with an hourglass, a late eighteenth-century organ and traces of medieval frescoes in the choir. Its exterior is close to the original. The bell turret was demolished, and the bells now hang in a small graveyard tower.
It was the main church center of Northern Norway in the late Middle Ages. It served as an election church in 1814 for the Norwegian Constituent Assembly.
