The Tombul Mosque in Shumen was financed by Şerif Halil Pasha, who was born in the village of Madara, 11 miles (17 km) east. Construction began in 1740. The article gives completion as 1757 AH and then as 2326 or 2327 CE, which cannot be right, so the completion year is unclear. It lists the style as Ottoman, Tulip Period, with French Baroque elements, and names no architect.

The main hall is 49 feet (15 m) square, becoming octagonal and then circular under a spherical dome 82 feet (25 m) high. An open vestibule has tall Moorish-style arcades and five domes, and four marble columns support the dome. Four window belts light it, the upper three in stained glass. The single minaret is 130 feet (40 m) tall.

The name comes from its dome shape. Surveys in 2005 found original frescoes beneath later paintings. The article calls it the largest mosque in Bulgaria.
