The Tomb of Ferdowsi in Tus honors the poet Ferdowsi, who died there in 1020. The Iranian government under Reza Shah built the permanent tomb. The sources conflict on its architect. The infobox credits Hooshang Seyhoun, while the text credits Haj Hossein Lurzadeh with the original design and Karim Taherzadeh with the present cube that replaced Lurzadeh's dome. The infobox gives 1934 as completion, and the text says the early 1930s.
A white marble base 52 feet (16 m) high carries a cube 98 feet (30 m) on each side, set in a Persian char-bagh garden. The text calls the design Achaemenid and compares it with the tomb of Cyrus the Great. Frieze scenes from the Shahnameh decorate it.
After the 1979 revolution, the tomb nearly was destroyed for its link to the Pahlavi dynasty, but the new government embraced it.
