Toledo Cathedral was promoted by Archbishop Rodrigo Ximénez de Rada, with King Ferdinand III attending the foundation ceremony. The infobox gives groundbreaking in 1227 and completion in 1493, but the text says work began in 1224 or 1225 and the stone was laid in 1226 or 1227. The infobox names Master Martín Petrus Petri, but the text says an earlier master Martín was first architect.
The text calls it High Gothic modeled on Bourges, with Mudéjar elements, Renaissance additions and the Baroque El Transparente of 1729 to 1732. It uses white limestone and has five naves and a double ambulatory. It measures 390 feet (120 m) long and 194 feet (59 m) wide, with a single tower 301 feet (92 m) high.
Cardinal Cisneros rebuilt the presbytery and commissioned the Mozarabic chapel, where the Hispano-Mozarabic rite is still used. Eugenio Durango altered the west facade in 1787, and the Spanish Civil War damaged stained glass.
