The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku was designed by Kenzo Tange, with Kiyoshi Mutō as structural engineer, as the seat of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Construction began in April 1988 and finished in December 1990, though the infobox gives opening as 1991. It cost ¥157 billion of public money, about US$1 billion, and replaced Tange's 1957 city hall at Yūrakuchō.

The design is meant to resemble an integrated circuit while evoking a Gothic cathedral. The roof is 797 feet (242.9 m) high. Tower No. 1 has 48 stories and splits into two sections at the 33rd floor, Tower No. 2 has 37 stories and the Assembly Building eight. Floor area is about 2.1 million square feet (195,764 m²).

Two free observation decks on the 45th floor sit about 663 feet (202 m) up. It was Tokyo's tallest building until Midtown Tower passed it in 2007. The article gives no materials.
