The Thomas P. Murphy Design Studio Building is the studio building of the University of Miami School of Architecture in Coral Gables. Arquitectonica designed it, with Raymond Fort as lead designer. It covers 13,000 square feet (1,200 square meters) and sits at an intersection, forming a plaza and a pathway that links the campus to the Miami Metrorail.
The design is meant as a teaching tool for the principles of modern architecture. Studios follow a 25-foot square module of four desks, and the open plan seats 76. Ceilings are 18 feet high and windows open. A warped roof corner shades the interior, a fabrication lab projects through the facade, and narrow steel pipe columns carry the ceilings.
It won the 2019 American Architecture Award and an AIA Florida Honor Award. Architect Magazine put it on the cover of its March 2019 issue.
