The Tech Interactive at 201 South Market Street in San Jose was designed by the Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta. It was inaugurated on October 31, 1998 as The Tech Museum of Innovation. The article gives no style, materials or construction dates, and describes a mango and azure color scheme.

The facility covers 132,000 square feet on three floors. A multi-story sculpture called Origin sits inside a 45-foot cylindrical tower on the lower level. The front wall is inscribed with quotations from Hewlett, Packard, Noyce and Moore.

The IMAX Dome Theater seats up to 280 and is Northern California's only domed IMAX theater, with the first dome laser projector. Exhibits include Body Worlds Decoded and Space Exploration.
