The Scalpel is a skyscraper at 52 Lime Street in the City of London, opposite Lloyd's building and next to the Willis Building. Kohn Pedersen Fox designed it, with Arup as structural engineer and Skanska as contractor. WRBC Development UK was the developer. Planning was approved in June 2013 and it was completed in 2018 at a cost of £500 million. Three older buildings were demolished for it. The article names no style or materials.
The name began as a Financial Times nickname for its angular design and later became official. It is 623 feet (190 m) tall with 38 floors and two basements. From south of the Thames it resembles a play button. It has 11 TWiN lifts.
It was built for W. R. Berkley, which uses it as its European headquarters. Other tenants include AXIS Capital, National Australia Bank and SAP. The article gives no visitor access.
