The Glasshouse on the Gateshead Quayside was designed by Foster and Partners, chosen from a 1997 competition run by RIBA Competitions. The Sage Group funded the building and gave it its original name, Sage Gateshead. It opened on December 17, 2004, at a cost of over 70 million pounds, mostly from National Lottery grants. It was renamed on September 13, 2023. The article gives no street address.

A glass and steel shell encloses three acoustically isolated buildings. Sage One is modeled on the Musikverein in Vienna and has adjustable ceiling panels. Sage Two is possibly the world's only ten-sided performance space. A spongy concrete mix improves the acoustics.

It won a RIBA Inclusive Design Award and a Civic Trust Award.
