The Breakers in Newport was designed by Richard Morris Hunt for Cornelius Vanderbilt II as a summer residence, with interiors by Jules Allard and Sons and Ogden Codman Jr. The infobox gives 1895, and the text says 1893 to 1895 but also mentions an expansion finished in 1892, which conflicts with both. The infobox says Neo Italian Renaissance, while the text says Renaissance Revival and a definitive American Beaux-Arts work.
The walls are Indiana limestone over steel trusses, with a red terra cotta roof, brick, imported marble and platinum-leaf wall panels. It has 70 rooms and 62,482 square feet of living area over five floors.
