The Texas State Capitol in Austin was designed by Elijah E. Myers in 1881, with civil engineer Reuben Lindsay Walker directing construction. The State of Texas is the client, and the Capitol Syndicate built it in exchange for about three million Panhandle acres. The infobox says built in 1885, but the text gives 1882 to 1888, with the cornerstone laid in 1885 and the opening in 1888.
The article calls the style Italian Renaissance Revival, modeled on the U.S. Capitol. Planned limestone cladding discolored, so the exterior is red granite from Granite Mountain. It is 302.64 feet (92.24 m) tall. The infobox lists the grounds as 51.4 acres, but the text says 22.
A fire damaged the east wing in 1983, and a $75 million underground extension opened in 1993. A master renovation began in 2016. It houses the Texas Legislature and the Governor's offices. The article gives no hours.
