Tampere Central Station stands on Rautatienkatu in Tampere, Finland. The first wooden station opened in 1876 as the northern end of the Hämeenlinna to Tampere railway. The present building was completed in 1936 and is Functionalist in style. The architects were Eero Seppälä and Otto Flodin. A 118-foot (36-meter) clock tower designed by Aulis Blomstedt was added in 1937 at the request of the railway administration.
The platform roofs are folded plates of steel-reinforced concrete. The station has five tracks on three platforms. Beneath it, the Asematunneli shopping tunnel, built in 1989, is 322 feet (98 meters) long and has about 20 shops. The building was protected in 1998.
About 150 trains call each day. The station served 5.25 million passengers in 2018, and in 2015 it ranked second in Finland after Helsinki.
