The Tainan Art Museum in the West Central District has two buildings. Building 1 was designed by Sutejiro Umezawa and built in 1930 as the Tainan Police Department under Japanese rule. The article calls it the earliest existing police station building in Taiwan. Its style is Art Deco, with ochre yellow tiles, and it holds 16 galleries.

Building 2 was designed by Shi Zhao Yong and Shigeru Ban. Its form is modeled on the flame tree flower, and it has 17 galleries. The two buildings have 1,024 and 2,960 square meters of space.

The police moved out in 2011. Planning began in 2010, some exhibitions opened in October 2018, and the museum opened to the public on January 27, 2019. It has a theater, a children's art center and an art research center, the first of its kind in Taiwan.
