The Swiss Embassy Residence in Washington, D.C., was designed by Steven Holl Architects, with Rüssli Architekten AG, for the Swiss Federal Office for Buildings and Logistics. The project ran from 2001 to 2006 and covers 23,000 square feet.
The plan is cruciform around courtyards, and it grew from a diagonal line of overlapping spaces. Materials include charcoal integral-color concrete, local slate trim, sand-blasted structural glass planks and a sedum green roof. The site is on a hill with a view toward the Washington Monument.
It was built to the Swiss Minergie standard, and the south facades use passive solar energy. The style is listed as Contemporary by assumption, and public access is flagged as unverified.
