The Sumida Hokusai Museum in Kamezawa, Sumida, Tokyo, was designed by Kazuyo Sejima of SANAA. Sumida Ward developed it, and it opened on November 22, 2016. The article gives no start date, style or dimensions, but describes a minimalist aluminum facade and an angular design.
The building has five interlocking volumes and several entrances. The open design is meant to suggest the movement in the work of Katsushika Hokusai. Reflective aluminum panels clad the exterior.
The museum holds more than 1,800 items related to Hokusai, including paintings, sketches, woodblock prints and personal artifacts. The site was once part of the Tsugaru clan's daimyo residence in the Edo period. Local tradition says Hokusai painted a folding screen for the clan there. The museum has also published books on its collection and exhibitions. The article gives no hours or admission.
