The State Library of Queensland stands in the Queensland Cultural Centre at South Bank, facing the Brisbane River. Robin Gibson and Partners designed the original 1988 building, a C-shaped form of concrete and glass around a Poinciana tree. Donovan Hill and Peddle Thorp led the Millennium Library Project redevelopment, which began in 2004 and reopened on November 25, 2006. The article names no style.
The redevelopment added a fifth floor, a riverside addition, a new entrance and about 12,000 square meters of space, bringing the total to 28,000 square meters. It houses the John Oxley Library, the Australian Library of Art, The Edge digital makerspace and the kuril dhagun Indigenous Knowledge Centre.
It won the 2007 RAIA Sir Zelman Cowen Award for Public Architecture. The 2015 State Heritage Listing left it out as too altered. Access to information is free, and guided tours are free. The article gives no hours.
