The State Kremlin Palace is a Soviet modernist hall inside the Moscow Kremlin. The infobox credits Mikhail Posokhin, Ashot Mndoyants and Eugene Stamo, though the text does not name them. It was built at Nikita Khrushchev's initiative as a modern arena for Communist Party meetings, and the article contrasts it with Stalinist architecture. Construction began in 1959, and it opened on October 17, 1961, with the 22nd CPSU Congress.
The building is rectangular, about 40,000 cubic meters, with over 800 rooms and nearly half of it, 56 feet (17 m), underground. The exterior is white Ural marble and anodized aluminum. Alexander Deineka made mosaics in the banquet hall.
It replaced buildings including the old State Armoury and parts of the Great Kremlin Palace, which caused an uproar. It now seats 6,000 and hosts concerts.
