St. Peter's Church in Leipzig was designed by August Hartel and Constantin Lipsius, whose designs won an 1877 competition of about 80 entries. Minister Gustav Adolf Fricke and the church council decided in 1876 to build a new church. The text gives March 1882 as the construction start, and the foundation stone was laid on September 17, 1882, which the infobox calls the groundbreaking. It was dedicated on December 27, 1885.
The style is Gothic Revival. The tower is 285 feet (87 m), the tallest in Leipzig. The exterior is richly decorated, with stained-glass windows and a large western portal. The text names no materials.
An earlier church of 1507 was demolished in 1886. The new church was badly damaged in World War II bombing, and the roof stayed unrepaired for years. Restorations followed in the 1970s, 1990s and 2000s. It is an active Lutheran parish and a concert venue. The article gives no hours.
