St. Michael's Church in Vienna was the parish church of the Imperial Court. It was built in the late Romanesque and early Gothic style, about 1220 to 1240. A document gives 1221, but the article says it is likely a 14th-century forgery, and the infobox gives 1217 as the consecration year. The early Gothic choir dates to 1327 to 1340, and Ernest Koch completed the neoclassical facade in 1792. Jean-Baptiste d'Avrange designed the 1782 high altar.
The church is 213 feet (65 m) long and 115 feet (35 m) wide, with a nave 49 feet (15 m) wide and two aisles. It has a 16th-century Gothic bell tower and a Baroque organ of 1714 by Johann David Sieber.
Mozart's Requiem was first performed here at a memorial service in December 1791. The crypt holds over 4,000 well-preserved corpses.
