Srebrenik Fortress stands near the town of Srebrenik in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the village of Gornji Srebrenik on the northeastern slopes of Majevica mountain. It is built on a steep, nearly inaccessible rock, with a deep trench dug beneath it and a small bridge as its only entrance. Its builder and construction date are unknown. The earliest known records date to 1333.
The fortress changed hands many times. Sigismund of Luxembourg captured it in 1393, and the Hungarians recaptured it several times afterward. By 1462 it was under Ottoman control, but Matthias Corvinus retook it in 1464 and created the Banate of Srebrenik there. An Ottoman mosque was added in the early 16th century.
The last garrison soldier left in 1835. The fortress was designated a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina on November 2, 2004.
