Sponza Palace is a building in Dubrovnik, Croatia, designed by Paskoje Miličević Mihov. Construction began in 1516 and was completed in 1522. It combines Gothic and Renaissance styles and has a rectangular plan around an inner courtyard, whose atrium served as a trading and meeting space. The Andrijić brothers and other stonecutters made the loggia and sculptures.
It served as a customs office, bonded warehouse, mint, armoury, treasury, bank and school. A Latin inscription on the arch concerns weights and fair dealing, and a statue of St. Blaise stands on the facade. The palace survived the 1667 earthquake without damage.
Today it houses the Dubrovnik State Archive, which holds documents from the 12th century, the earliest dating to 1022. It is also a performance venue, and the square in front hosts the opening of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
