The Space Needle in Seattle was privately financed by the Pentagram Corporation and designed by John Graham Jr. of John Graham & Company, as a compromise between Edward E. Carlson's balloon-like base sketch and Graham's flying-saucer top. Victor Steinbrueck introduced the hourglass profile. Construction began on April 17, 1961, and it opened on April 21, 1962.

The antenna spire is 605 feet (184 m) high and the structure is 138 feet (42 m) wide. The foundation is 30 feet (9 m) deep and 120 feet (37 m) across, and 72 bolts, each 30 feet long, secure the tower. The infobox gives completion as December 8, 1961, but the text says April 1962.

A $100 million Century Project designed by Olson Kundig Architects added a glass restaurant floor and The Loupe, an indoor deck with a revolving glass floor, in 2017 and 2018. The tower is a Seattle landmark. The article names no style.
