Southern Cross Station in Melbourne opened as Spencer Street station in 1859 and was renamed on December 13, 2005. Redevelopment ran from October 2002 to late 2006, designed by Grimshaw with Jackson Architecture. It has an undulating, wave-shaped roof. The article names no style and no materials. It won the RIBA Lubetkin Prize for the most outstanding building outside the European Union.

The Civic Nexus consortium, a subsidiary of IFM Investors, owns and runs it under a 30-year lease from the Victorian Government. The station covers 650,000 square feet (60,000 m²) with 16 platforms, 22 tracks and a height of 75 feet (23 m). Redevelopment cost $700 million, about $200 million over budget by July 2004.

It serves V/Line, metropolitan trains and a coach terminal, and had 20.161 million passengers in 2023–24. Step-free access is available. The article gives no hours.
