The South Dakota State Capitol in Pierre was designed by Bell & Detweiler of Minneapolis, with Perkins & McWayne of Sioux Falls chosen for the Annex. The infobox gives 1910, and the text says construction ran from 1905 to 1910. The Annex was planned in 1921, drawn in 1931 and completed in 1932. The article names no client and calls the style Renaissance Revival.

The floor is terrazzo tile, and the dome interior carries Tree of Life images. The rotunda dome is 96 feet high on a 20-acre site. The claim that 66 Italian artists laid the floor is described only as common lore.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 1, 1976. A renovation over 22 years led up to the 1989 centennial. Stained glass restoration began in 2013 at 2.7 million dollars and finished for the 125th anniversary. The article gives no hours or tour policies.
