The Sky Tower in Auckland was designed by Gordon Moller of Craig Craig Moller Architects, with Les Dykstra as project architect, for Harrah's Entertainment and SkyCity. Construction began in 1994, and it opened on August 3, 1997 at a cost of NZ$85 million. The article names no style.
The antenna reaches 328 meters (1,076 feet) and the roof 237 meters (778 feet). A reinforced concrete shaft 12 meters (39 feet) in diameter, built with climbing formwork, stands on 16 piles drilled over 15 meters into sandstone. The tower was designed for winds above 200 km/h and an 8.0 magnitude earthquake within 20 kilometers.
Public levels include a revolving restaurant and a main observation level with 38 mm glass floor sections. The Auckland Peering Exchange is on level 48, and the tower carries 23 FM stations and six digital TV multiplexes. LED lighting replaced the original metal halide in 2009.
