Skanderbeg Square is the central square of Tirana. The 2017 redesign was by the Belgian firm 51N4E and the artist Anri Sala. The original city plan was by Armando Brasini in 1925, continued by Florestano Di Fausto and updated in 1939 by Gherardo Bosio, in a Neo-Renaissance style. A grant from the State of Kuwait funded the 2010 project. Works began in March 2010, and the square opened in June 2017.

The square covers about 40,000 square meters. It is limited to pedestrians and public transport, with a fountain fed by rainwater. It is part of what the article calls the largest pedestrian zone in the Balkans.

The redesign won the European Prize for Urban Public Space in 2018. A statue of Stalin and later one of Hoxha once stood on the site. The Hoxha statue was removed after student-led protests in 1991.
