Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport lies in Bao'an District, about 20 miles (32 km) northwest of the city center. Studio Fuksas designed Terminal 3, and Aedas designed the satellite concourse. Shenzhen Airport Company owns and operates it. The airport first opened on October 12, 1991, as Shenzhen Huangtian Airport.

Terminal 3 began construction in early 2008 as part of work for the 2011 Summer Universiade. It opened on November 28, 2013, and covers 450,000 square meters (4.8 million sq ft) on six floors, with 63 boarding gates. Locals call it the giant flying fish. The satellite concourse opened in December 2021 and links to the main terminal by an automated people mover.

A third runway opened on November 29, 2025. The airport handled 66.5 million passengers in 2025. Metro Line 11 serves it.
