The Sharp Centre for Design houses the Faculty of Design at OCAD University in Toronto. Will Alsop designed it, and Archello lists the client as OCAD University. It stands between a park to the west and McCaul Street to the east.
The building is a flying, translucent rectangle raised eight stories above the ground, like a table top. Its skin is colorful and pixellated. The existing brick buildings lie beneath it, and the new form ties them to the park and the street.
The raised design keeps park views open for neighbors across McCaul Street. The project also restores the park as a home for contemporary sculpture and school events. Inside are gallery spaces, research centres, workshops for craft and metalwork, and cafe areas.
This building has no Wikipedia article. Facts come from Archello.
