The Shanghai Oriental Sports Center beside Expo Park in Pudong was designed by Gerkan, Marg and Partners. Construction began on December 30, 2008, and it opened in July 2011. The article gives late 2010 and 2011 for completion, and names no style or client. It cost 2 billion yuan.

The site covers 34.75 hectares with 163,800 square meters of floor space. It uses about 3,000 tons of steel and stands on a man-made lake connected to the Huangpu River.

The Indoor Stadium seats 18,000. The indoor swimming pool has 5,000 seats, and so does the outdoor pool. Oriental Sports Center station on the Shanghai Metro is nearby, and the article places the site beside Expo Park.
