Schaulager is a museum, art storage facility and research institute in Newmünchenstein, a sub-district of Münchenstein in the canton of Basel-Country. Herzog & de Meuron designed it, and the Laurenz Foundation commissioned it. It was built in 2002 and 2003 and opened in 2003. The article names no style, materials or dimensions, and gives no street address.
The building was conceived as an open warehouse offering suitable conditions for preserving art, with climate control and optimized space. It is aimed mainly at specialists, though it opens to the public for special events and annual exhibitions. Its core is the collection of the Emanuel Hoffmann Foundation, founded in 1933 by Maja Hoffmann-Stehlin, later Maja Sacher.
Annual exhibitions ran from 2003 to 2018. They included retrospectives of Dieter Roth in 2003, Jeff Wall in 2005 and Robert Gober in 2007. The 2018 Bruce Nauman show was done with MoMA. The article gives no hours.
