Santa Maria in Traspontina stands at Borgo Sant'Angelo 15 on Via della Conciliazione in Rome. It belongs to the Carmelites and is a titular church and the national church for Danish Catholics. The original church was demolished under Pius IV, between 1559 and 1565, to clear the line of fire for the cannons of Castel Sant'Angelo.
Giovanni Sallustio Peruzzi designed the new church, with contributions from Ottaviano Nonni and Francesco Peparelli, and the designs were in place by 1566. Peparelli designed the campanile in 1637. The facade is made of travertine blocks. Its low dome is the only dome in Rome that does not sit on a drum.
Carlo Fontana designed the main altar in 1674. The church has a chapel of St Barbara and a Danish chapel of St Knud.
