Sancaklar Mosque stands in Büyükçekmece, Istanbul. Emre Arolat designed it after the Sancaklar family asked for a mosque with views of Büyükçekmece Lake. It was completed in 2012. The article names no style and says the design departs from classic Ottoman mosque forms.
The prayer hall is built into the hill's slope, with 700 square meters of interior on a 1,300-square-meter site. Walls are board-marked concrete and rough stone, and a curved qibla wall receives daylight from above. The mihrab is a narrow vertical recess. There is no dome, though the ceiling contours suggest one. A tower-form minaret is the only tall element. Women and men face the qibla side by side but are separated.
A teahouse, communal space and library sit in a shallow pool in the courtyard. It won ArchDaily's 2015 Religious Building of the Year and a 2018 RIBA International Award. The article gives no hours.
