San Sebastiano al Palatino stands on the northeastern corner of the Palatine Hill in Rome, reached from the Via di San Bonaventura and the Forum. It is dedicated to Saint Sebastian, a martyr of the late third century under Diocletian. It was first known as Santa Maria in Pallara, and is linked to the Palladium.

The terrace below it dates from the reign of Domitian and measures 110 by 150 meters. In the tenth century a church and a monastery replaced the temple, and the apse frescoes come from that renovation. In 1061 the church was given to the abbot of Montecassino. The Barberini family rebuilt it in 1624, under Pope Urban VIII, in the Baroque style, and the exterior and most of the interior are relatively plain.

It became a titular church on March 5, 1973.
