The Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, is dedicated to the works of Salvador Dalí. HOK designed the new building with Yann Weymouth, Walter P. Moore was structural engineer and The Beck Group built it. The new building was announced in mid-2008 and opened on January 11, 2011. It reportedly cost over $30 million. The article calls it a surrealism-inspired structure and names no formal style.
Its walls are 18 inches (460 mm) of concrete, designed to withstand hurricanes. A glass entryway called the Enigma rises 75 feet (23 m) and encloses a spiral staircase. The glass is 1.5 inches thick.
The collection holds 96 oil paintings and over 100 watercolors and drawings, including The Hallucinogenic Toreador. Reynolds and Eleanor Morse assembled it and bought their first Dalí in 1943. The museum began in 1982 in a renovated marine warehouse. The article gives no hours.
