The Saint Louis Art Museum in Forest Park occupies the Palace of Fine Arts that Cass Gilbert built in 1904 for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. David Chipperfield designed the East Building, selected by the museum board in 2005, with Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum as architect of record and Michel Desvigne as landscape architect. Construction began in 2009 and the museum stayed open. It opened in summer 2013 at about 130 million dollars. The article names no style.

The expansion added over 224,000 square feet of gallery space, including an underground garage. Private gifts and tax-exempt bonds funded it.

Andy Goldsworthy's Stone Sea sits in a sunken courtyard between the old and new buildings.
