The Royal Danish Playhouse sits on the Inner Harbour waterfront in Frederiksstaden, Copenhagen. The Danish practice Lundgaard & Tranberg designed it, and it opened in 2008. The article gives no construction dates, owner or style. The idea of a new playhouse goes back to the 1880s, when Copenhagen wanted a venue for natural, intimate drama.
Specially developed deep-brown brick covers the building, with a glass-encased top story and a dark copper-clad cube for the stage tower. A raised oak walkway, about 492 feet (150 m) long, runs on crooked columns, and about 40 percent of the building projects over the water. Seating is 650, 250 and 100.
A glazed foyer along the water has harbor views, a restaurant and a café. It adds to the Royal Danish Theatre's 1874 venue and the 2004 Opera House. It won a RIBA European Award in 2008. The article gives no hours.
