The Rookery Building at 209 South LaSalle Street in Chicago was designed by Burnham & Root, meaning Daniel H. Burnham and John Wellborn Root, and completed in 1888. Edward C. Waller leased the site in 1885 on a 99-year lease, and the original owner was the Boston investor Peter Brooks.

The infobox says Chicago School with Moorish, Byzantine, Venetian and Romanesque motifs, and the text says Chicago School with a facade mixing Roman Revival and Queen Anne. It combines masonry bearing walls with a cast and wrought iron frame and stands 181 feet (55 m) tall. A two-story light court sits under a 5,000-pane skylight.

Frank Lloyd Wright remodeled the lobby from 1905 to 1907, adding marble and a double staircase, and William Drummond remodeled it in 1931. A restoration ran from 1989 to 1992. It became a National Historic Landmark in 1975. Offices fill it, and the Wright Trust offers weekday tours.
