The RMIT Design Hub is a research, archive, exhibition and studio building of RMIT University, at Swanston and Victoria streets in Melbourne. Sean Godsell Architects designed it with Peddle Thorp Architects. It was completed in May 2012. The article says minimalism is the main influence on the exterior, while the interior has an industrial character. The floor area is 13,000 square meters.
Its facade has operable disks of sandblasted glass on steel cylinders, motorized to follow the sun. Inside, galvanized steel walkway grating clads walls. Two buildings join at basement level around a central forecourt. Greywater is reused for flushing, cooling and irrigation. It has a Green Star 5-star rating.
Critics questioned the sustainability claims and found it insular. In late 2014 glass disks fell from the facade. The building appears in the film Predestination. The article gives no hours.
